​Buchanan County is comprised of 504-square miles and is located in far Southwest Virginia, just miles from the state borders of Kentucky and West Virginia. The county is marked by rugged mountain terrain, forested lands and experiences a four seasons climate conducive to enjoying the great outdoors. Numerous parks, ATV trails, hiking and biking opportunities abound throughout the county. Wildlife viewing opportunities are found in a number of locations as well.

The history of Buchanan County dates to its founding in 1858. Today, much of the county remains forested with specific areas set aside to get out and explore and embrace the wilderness.

GETTING HERE

The primary route leading into Buchanan County and its county seat in the Town of Grundy is U.S. Route 460. Roads to get to adventure offerings branch off from there and include State Rt. 83 and State Rt. 609.
